The Materioteca: material before idea

Behind every successful interior contract project lies a choice: the right material, at the right time.

Every architect knows that moment: the render is perfect, the specification is ready, and all that's left is to confirm that the material chosen on screen is truly the right one. That's where a project either holds together or cracks. A finish shifts under a different light from the one in the render. A resistance promised by the technical sheet has to be touched to be believed. An essence the client pictured as warm turns out, in person, to be something else entirely.

The BM Italia Materioteca was created for exactly this: to give those who design a fixed point — physical, immediate — in the instant before the final choice.

An archive that normally doesn't exist

Building an up-to-date archive of finishes, essences and technical surfaces is a long, costly task — nearly impossible for an independent professional to sustain. Different suppliers, samples that change season after season, technical materials hard to source on their own.

In our Materioteca, that work has already been done. Dozens of brands, hundreds of finishes, organized and always up to date — ready to be consulted at any moment, with no courier to wait for and no low-resolution PDF to settle for.

Where specification leaves no margin

A restaurant, a boutique hotel, a cocktail bar: projects where the material has to do far more than please the eye. It must meet fire-safety regulations, withstand relentless footfall, and hold its appearance after years of service. Specifying a finish without first verifying it, in these contexts, is a risk a project can rarely afford.

Touching the real sample — rather than reading its data sheet — lets you assess aesthetics, performance and compliance while the project is still on the table. Not on site, where corrections come at a cost.

"A moodboard built with real samples, right in front of the client, changes the way a project is understood and approved."

A shared space, a way of working

The Materioteca isn't simply an archive to consult: it's an integral part of the working method we offer at our coworking Hub. Anyone working in the Hub can settle into the meeting area, equipped with a bookable multimedia screen, and build their design proposal starting from real materials — not just images.

How to bring the Materioteca into your workflow in 3 simple steps:

01 | Browse the Materioteca
Explore the categories relevant to your project and compare finishes side by side

02 | Compose your moodboard
Build your material selection right on your workstation table

03 | Present to the client
Use the bookable multimedia screen, with the physical samples right at hand

Stop imagining materials. Start touching them.
